Lincoln and the Power of the Press: The War for Public Opinion

This “Lincoln and the Power of the Press” talk and conversation will focus on press and politics in the age of Abraham Lincoln, including Lincoln’s dabbling in journalism, and his use of political patronage  to secure and maintain press support.  Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer, author, co-author or editor of over 40 books will participate in a discussion including the publishing giants who dominated Civil War journalism.

Reserve a seat

All public programs at the National Archives are free and streamed live online via the National Archives’ YouTube channel. Reservations are recommended; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The doors to the building will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the program. Use the Special Events entrance on the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW.
