The National Archives Foundation today announced it has partnered with BrightestYoungThings.com (BYT) to host a first-ever after hours event at the National Archives Museum to celebrate the Archives’ new exhibit: Spirited Republic: Alcohol in American History.

The event will take place on April 18, 2015 and will feature open bars, including beer and specialty cocktails by Jack Rose Dining Saloon, The Partisan, Mockingbird Hill, Daikaya, PX, Founding Farmers, Bourbon Steak, 2 birds 1 stone, and barmini by José Andrés. Musical guests include DJ Ian Svenonius, Jonny Grave, DJ Adrian Loving, and Daniel Knox. Plus: Spirited Republic-themed TED-style talks curated by Derek Brown and much more!

More information about the event, which will also feature exclusive access to the exhibit, is available at: http://brightestyoungthings.com/articles/announcing-byts-spirited-republic-a-national-archives-museum-after-hours.htm.

“Our Spirited Republic exhibition is the perfect moment to launch our new partnership with BYT and expose a wide range of new audiences to the Archives,” said Patrick M. Madden, Executive Director of the Foundation. “This event has buzz, fun and epic history all rolled into one.”

Proceeds from this special event will go in part to the National Archives Foundation, an independent nonprofit that increases public awareness of the National Archives, inspires a deeper appreciation of our country’s heritage, and encourages citizen engagement in our democracy. The Foundation generates financial and creative support for National Archives exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives, introducing America’s records to people around the U.S. and the world.

Spirited Republic explores the federal government’s efforts, successes, and failures to change our drinking habits, from whiskey rations to the Continental Army to the Whiskey Rebellion to Prohibition and beyond. The exhibit uses nearly 100 National Archives records and artifacts to show the evolution of the government’s alcohol policy over time, and to illustrate the wide variety of views about alcohol held by Americans.

Spirited Republic is free and open to the public, and will be on display in the Lawrence F. O’Brien Gallery of the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC, from March 6, 2015, through January 10, 2016. The National Archives is located on the National Mall on Constitution Avenue at 9th Street, NW.

The public can learn more at spiritedrepublic.org and on social media via hashtag #SpiritedRepublic.

Spirited Republic is presented in part by the National Archives Foundation through the generous support of HISTORY®, the Lawrence F. O’Brien Family, The Tasting Panel Magazine, and Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America. Additional exhibition funding provided by the Beer Institute, the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S., the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association, and the National Beer Wholesalers Association.
