“There is no place better to spend America’s birthday than the home of the original Declaration of Independence,” said Executive Director Patrick Madden. “Join us for a tradition like no other: the annual Independence Day celebration at the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC. Boo King George III, and cheer ‘Huzzah!’ as we declare our independence on the steps of the Archives. This is a special family opportunity to experience the National Archives Museum and Washington, DC during this holiday weekend.”

Every year, the National Archives hosts a celebration of the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence with a traditional July 4 program in Washington, D.C. The celebration includes a dramatic reading of the Declaration by historical reenactors and a full day of free family-friendly activities and entertainment for all ages.
