America’s First Ladies: In Service to Our Nation

First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Laura Bush will speak at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. to participate in a luncheon discussion about the legacy of the First Ladies and the importance of supporting active duty military personnel, veterans, and their families.
David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, and Anita B. McBride, American University School of Public Affairs, will provide welcome remarks. At 9:45 am ET, Cokie Roberts will moderate a panel on “Forces for Action: First Ladies in American History” with William Seale, author and White House Historian; Katherine A.S. Sibley, professor at Saint Joseph’s University; and Susan Swain, President and Co-CEO, C-SPAN. Bob Woodruff, ABC news anchor, will then moderate a discussion with First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Laura Bush.
This program is part of American University’s Legacies of America’s First Ladies initiative and conference series. It is presented in partnership with Joining Forces, the George W. Bush Institute, the National Archives, the National Archives Foundation, the White House Historical Association, the American University School of Public Affairs, and the American University Library.
