McGowan Forum on Communications: White House Press Secretaries

Since President Herbert Hoover’s administration, White House press secretaries have been communicating both the public and private sides of the American presidency.  For the 10th annual McGowan Forum on Communications, four former White House press secretaries will share behind-the-scenes stories, discuss the evolution of the position, and highlight the trials and triumphs of serving as the president’s spokesperson.

Moderated by NPR’s Michel Martin, panelists will include Ron Nessen (Ford administration, 1974-1977); Marlin Fitzwater (Reagan and Bush administrations, 1987-1992); Mike McCurry (Clinton administration, 1994-1998); and Robert Gibbs (Obama administration, 2009-2011).
