  • Date: Thursday, June 20, 2024
  • Time: 11:00 am
  • Location: Online

Enslaved as a child in New York, Sojourner Truth later became a preacher advocating for abolition, temperance, and human rights. She delivered her famous speech, “Ain’t I a Woman,” in 1851 at the Women’s Rights Convention in Ohio. Come learn about her work and life and why she became a champion for African American and women’s rights.

Sojourner Truth is portrayed by Kathryn Wood from History At Play.

From June 18 to 20, 2024, the National Archives Museum will display the original Emancipation Proclamation and General Order No. 3, a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States that all slaves are free.

This program and the Emancipation Proclamation and General Order No. 3 Featured Document Presentation is made possible in part by the National Archives Foundation through the generous support of The Boeing Company.
