Spielberg Film Fest: Amistad

The Foundation for the National Archives has named director Steven Spielberg as the 2013 recipient of its Records of Achievement Award in recognition of his film legacy, which has brought to life defining moments of our nation’s history. In commemoration of this award and in collaboration with DreamWorks Studios, the National Archives is screening four of his critically acclaimed films.

Amistad (1997; 155 minutes; rated R) recounts the trial that followed the 1839 rebellion aboard the Spanish slave ship Amistad and captures the complex political maneuverings set in motion by the event. Cast includes Morgan Freeman, Nigel Hawthorne, Anthony Hopkins, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew McConaughey, Stellan Skarsgard, Anna Paquin, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations accepted. Free tickets are distributed at the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue, starting 60 minutes prior to start time.
